Challenges

  • Selecting a suitable sensor capable of measuring the speed at a rapid pace of 350 meters per minute.
  • Displaying the speed reading prominently on a screen.
  • Converting the displayed output to a precise 0 to 10 volts signal.

 

Solution

  • High-Frequency Sensing: We opted for a Contrinex inductive sensor renowned for its high-frequency capabilities. By affixing a small marker to the shaft, we successfully obtained a pulse from the sensor with each 360-degree rotation.
  • Real-Time Monitoring: We seamlessly connected the sensor to an Autonics pulse meter, enabling us to monitor the speed per minute on the pulse meter’s clear display.
  • Voltage Conversion: To transform the pulse meter’s 4 to 20 milliamp output into a precise 0 to 10 volts signal, we utilized a signal converter from Datexel, a trusted Italian brand. With meticulous adjustment of the dip switches, we achieved a seamless conversion without any voltage drop.
  • Visual Display: To present the output in a user-friendly manner, we integrated an Autonics voltmeter display on the second panel, conveniently located near the PLC device.
  • Power Reliability: To ensure the Datexel signal converter received consistent power, we incorporated an Autonics power supply into the setup.
